ENTERTAINMENT DESIGN AND PRODUCTION

Students in the entertainment design and production major will:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of all areas of theatrical production.
  2. Analyze and critique theatrical experiences while applying critical thinking.
  3. Execute high level techniques pertaining to the area of technical theatre and apply them appropriately to production and classwork.Ìý
  4. Articulate one’s artistic voice while creating, presenting, producing, performing, responding, critiquing, and connecting.
  5. Incorporate constructive criticism offered by peers and colleagues into their professional practice. Ìý
  6. Identify and explore the roles of theater in the global society’s past, present and future.Ìý

MUSIC

Students in the music major will:

1. At the completion of the program,Ìýstudents will use performance skills required for artistic self-expression inÌýat least one major performance area at levels appropriate for their degree program, as soloists and ensemble members.
2. At the completion of the program, students will illustrate the skills and knowledge required to work as leaders and inÌýcollaboration on matters of musical interpretation and instruction, including rehearsalÌýand conducting techniques.
3. At the completion of the program, students will develop an understanding of the common elements and organizationalÌýstructures in music which are: aural, composition/improvisation, theoretical, and form analysis.
4. At the completion of the program,Ìýstudents will identify an appropriate knowledge and understanding ofÌýmusic’s historical, cultural, and stylistic foundations.Ìý
5. At the completion of the program,Ìýstudents will illustrate the ability to create original and/or derivative music.

Upon successful completion of the program, Music Education graduates will be able to:

1.ÌýDemonstrate a mastery of the knowledge and skills required for successful PreK-12 music instruction; with emphasis on advocacy, philosophy, research and organization.Ìý
2. Plan and design instruction based on comprehensive knowledge and skills in the music area; teaching that cultivates music literacy and embraces inclusion and engagement.
3. Differentiate instruction by using strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous musical growth.Ìý
4. Create safe learning environments that inspire every student to meet high standards, develop independence and become actively involved in the music classroom. Ìý

MUSICAL THEATRE

Students in the musical theatre major will:

1. Perform a wide variety of musical theatre vocal repertoire.
2. Sing with proper technique and understanding of artistry.
3. Develop proficiency in sight-reading, music theory, terminology and notation.
4. Perform a wide variety of acting styles.
5. Apply acting theory to character study.
6. Act with proper technique and understanding of artistry.
7. Identify and appraise the role of theatre in society.
8. Perform a wider variety of dance forms, including tap, jazz and ballet.
9. Dance with proper technique and understanding of artistry.
10.ÌýDevelop an understanding of the rehearsal process.
11. Practice combining skills from all three disciplines (singing, acting, dance).
12. Successfully engage in artistic collaboration.
13. Analyze and critique dramatic and theatric content while developing critical- and creative-thinking skills.
14. Comprehend and articulate how theatre can give artistic expression to the human condition.

5.Ìý Appraise oneself as a theatre artist and design an effective and appropriate marketing strategy for one’s chosen field.
